During moments of intense grief over the loss of a loved one, do you find yourself praising the Lord?
That is where I found myself Thursday afternoon. I did not lose a friend or family member, but I did lose 2 patients in the span of 4 days, patients who I took care of closely and had grown close to their family.
Thursday morning as I was preparing to send this newsletter out, I was typing a prayer request for a 28-week preemie who was born at home and arrived at our hospital 3 hours later and not breathing well (picture above). As I was typing this request, I received a call over our HAM Radio, "CQ Balfate Code Blue Enfermeria Sala 1." My heart sunk as I realized that sweet baby was coding. After 2 hours of working on her, the Lord decided to take her home to Him, 19 hours after she took her first breath.
I retrieved a baby coffin (picture below) to give to the family, then left the hospital. I drove my 4-wheeler to Las Minas, our village gas station 15 minutess away. I wanted to get away, to think, and spend time with the Lord. I found myself worshipping the Lord, singing "Blessed Be the Name of the Lord" (lyrics below) to the top of my lungs, over and over. The monkeys probably thought I was crazy :-) Though I did not lose a loved one, it still gave me great comfort and peace.
I trust that He is weaving a beautiful tapestry that I may not fully see, understand, or appreciate until I am in His presence in Glory.
Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your name Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your glorious name
You give and take away You give and take away My heart will choose to say Lord, blessed be Your name
We have a volunteer who is a carpenter that is currently serving with us for 6 months. He made these baby coffins to give to families when babies pass away at the hospital. In Honduras, they do not embalm bodies so families must bury their loved one within 24 hours of dying.
A 39-week baby born with what we later believed to be Trisomy 18 (AKA Edward's Syndrome), a severe genetic disorder due to an extra copy of chromosome 18. She passed away at the hospital 5 days after birth.
