In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 1:6-7
6 years ago, I was in a bad wreck. While stopped behind a school bus, a guy rear-ended me going 55 mph. As I left the scene to go to the hospital, he left the scene in handcuffs after being arrested for DUI. My injuries took over a year to recover from, but during that time, the Lord drew me near to Him and I began to know Him in a more personal, deeper level than I ever had before.
10 days ago, I was involved in a similar wreck. I was exiting off one interstate to merge onto I-20 in Birmingham, AL. One lane was closed for road construction so I slowed down to allow 2 cars to merge into my lane. All of a sudden, I was thrown forward in my seat as I was, once again, rear-ended by someone going 50+ mph. The back of my head hit the headrest and I thought to myself, "Did that just happen? Is this really happening again, God?"
The past 10 days have been a whirlwind of emotions, anger, and frustration, yet I have also been overwhelmed with a peace I cannot describe or understand.
Following Jesus is a multi-faceted process. Just as precious metals are placed in a fire at high temperatures to remove impurities, the Lord does the same by bringing us to situations that "refine" us, removing impurities of our flesh that also deepens our faith in Him. Nothing happens to you that doesn't get filtered through God's hands first so there is a purpose for the trial or situation you are facing. Because of this, I have learned to embrace these opportunities with joy and great anticipation to see the Lord work in and through me, growing deeper roots in my relationship with the Lord.
Through my trunk was bent, cracked and broken, the Jesus decal on my car did not have a single scratch on it! Continuing to praise Jesus for His protection!
Speaking at Christ United
I was able to briefly share my ministry in Honduras with my church family at Christ United. It was great! In 2 weeks, the Lord prompted two people to give $1,500 for my four-wheeler, allowing me to minister in the villages. He also prompted 2 people to give $150 for my HAM radio, our staff's only way of communication at the hospital.
